The 13 Golden Dharmas were held closely by the Sakya Buddhist masters of Tibet for over 800 years. These initiations empowering and training students in the compassionate practices of the Bodhisattvas , encourage awareness, fearlessness, and caring. Each “dharma” or empowerment is the entry into a meditation of the different esoteric aspects of wisdom, strength and compassion. It is an extremely rare opportunity to receive these teachings that were held in the highest esteem by the all Buddhist lineages of Tibet and previously only given in the ancient temple at Sakya. Lama Kunga Thartse Rinpoche is uniquely qualified having received these precious teachings from such masters as Lama Dampa Shenphen Nyingpo in Tibet.

Lama Kunga will present the meditation instructions directly in English in a manner that students can participate in the profound visualizations while the ritual goes on. This is a rare opportunity to receive this unbroken line of instructions just as they were compiled by Sachen Kunga Nyingpo from Indian masters in the 12th century.

Abhidharma provides the essential framework necessary for understanding the inter-relationship between the objective world of matter and the subjective world of mind and its emotions from a Buddhist point of view. Abhidharma forms the practical basis for the fruitful pursuit of all Buddhist meditation and practice. This program will focus on the study and practice of Abhidharma according to the oral instructions of Lama Migmar.

This is Lama Migmar’s second series of Abidharma teachings at Ewam Choden. The first was very popular because of his clear and compassionate way of explaining difficult concepts and his willingness to receive and reply to many questions from students. Lama Migmar teaches in fluent English.

Lama Migmar, a Buddhist Chaplain at Harvard University, received both a traditional and a contemporary education in India. He graduated with an Acharya degree in 1979, first in his class out of all students from the four schools. He was awarded a medal for academic excellence by His Holiness The Dalai Lama. He was also recognized as Khenpo for his scholarship and service to the Dharma by His Holiness Sakya Trizin.

Lama Migmar then served as the head of Sakya Center in Rajpur, India, and the Sakya Monastery in Puruwalla, India, from 1981 to 1989, taking care of the well being of several hundred monastic residents. During this time he reintroduced the original form of the geshe educational system of Tibet, with degrees from kazhipa up to the rabjampa degree, with a curriculum that included all of the eighteen major texts, which are known as the Dragchen Chogyed. Additionally, Lama Migmar supervised the editing and publication of over 50 rare volumes of Sakya literature including the 31 volumes of Sakya Lamdre and the rare Golden Manuscripts of the Five Founding Masters of Sakya.

He leads retreats at Buddhist centers throughout North America. He founded Sakya Institute in Cambridge, MA in 1989. CLICK HERE to learn more about Lama Migmar. (Note site will open in separate window)
